RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and maintain AWS Redshift data warehouse and AWS Aurora PostgreSQL databases, including installation, configuration, monitoring, performance tuning, backup, recovery, and security.
  • Collaborate with data engineering and analytics teams to gather and analyze data requirements, design data models, and implement data solutions to support business operations and applications.
  • Design, develop, and maintain ETL processes to extract, transform, and load data into AWS Redshift and AWS Aurora PostgreSQL databases from various sources.
  • Analyze and identify inefficient SQL queries by reviewing query execution plans, identifying long-running queries, and profiling query performance using query monitoring tools.
  • Develop and implement SQL query optimization techniques such as rewriting queries, optimizing joins, and reducing data movement to minimize query execution time and resource consumption.
  • Evaluate and optimize indexing strategies by identifying appropriate columns for indexing, creating and maintaining indexes, and periodically reviewing index usage and effectiveness.
  • Optimize data distribution and partitioning strategies based on workload patterns, query access patterns, and data distribution skew to minimize data movement during query execution and improve parallel processing performance.
  • Collaborate with data engineering and analytics teams to review and optimize ETL processes, including data extraction, transformation, and loading operations, to minimize data processing latency and maximize throughput.
  • Implement best practices and performance optimization techniques recommended by AWS documentation, whitepapers, and community forums to ensure efficient use of resources and maximize query performance across both AWS Redshift and AWS Aurora PostgreSQL environments.
  • Continuously monitor the health and performance of the database systems
  • Implementing proactive monitoring strategies to detect and address potential issues, such as hardware failures, resource contention, or configuration errors, before they impact system availability or performance.
  • Establishing and enforcing data validation checks, constraints, and referential integrity rules to maintain the accuracy and consistency of the data stored in the databases.
  • Monitoring the execution of ETL jobs, tracking job status, duration, success/failure rates, and data quality metrics, and implementing automated alerting mechanisms to notify relevant stakeholders of any anomalies or failures.
  • Defining performance SLAs for database systems and ETL processes based on business requirements and user expectations, and regularly monitoring performance metrics to ensure they meet or exceed predefined targets.
  • Conducting regular reviews and analysis of performance trends and historical data, identifying opportunities for optimization and improvement to enhance system efficiency and meet evolving business needs.
