THE OPPORTUNITY

We are currently on the lookout for a talented Engineer - Data Engineering - Tableau to join our team. The right candidate will function as a Report Developer focusing on building advanced analytics in the form of user-consumable online dashboards and reports. Working in a relatively new area, you will aid in developing new and exciting analytics to replace many of our existing-Excel based reports and provide guidance and advice on developing new more creative solutions to existing questions.

You will be fully immersed in Tableau Desktop daily, operating as a resident expert on all things Tableau while playing a pivotal role in the modernization of our analytics. You will receive business data guidance and support from our team allowing you to utilize your creativity and visualizations within developed dashboards.

At times you will wear other hats to support the team; including developing other reports in Cognos, writing queries and code, liaising with business users and our Tableau Server team, troubleshooting and answering data inquiries and sharing your Tableau knowledge through training sessions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Developing Tableau Desktop visualizations; Using existing legacy reports as examples, develop Tableau vizzes to replace them
  • Fulfilling new solution requests, where no reporting currently exists
  • Helping manage the library of existing vizzes
  • Continuous learning & development using Tableau
  • Supporting the team that provides full-stack analytic solutions
  • Providing guidance and getting involved in data governance and data source development
  • Providing backup support and development in existing BI solutions (Cognos, Excel)
  • Conducting other duties and coverage as required by the team
  • Supporting overall business migration to Tableau; Administering user security and access requests
  • Providing training sessions to other Tableau users
  • Running viz demos to end users
  • Investigating data issues and answering user questions
  • Liaising with the Tableau Server team

REQUIREMENTS

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent
  • Expert proficiency in using Tableau Desktop; Must have means of demonstrating skills and abilities (e.g., Tableau Public portfolio)
  • Expert proficiency in writing SQL SELECT statements
  • Strong technical, analytical, and data visualization skills and an understanding of visualization best practices
  • Must be an independent thinker and able to suggest new ways of looking at old problems
  • The ability to effectively communicate, in both written and verbal formats, to any level of the company and serve as an “analytic translator”
  • The ability to facilitate training and coaching of others to improve their ability to use data and analytical tools
  • A proven productivity track record while working remotely, with minimal supervision
  • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Tools, advanced Excel skills
  • The ability to adhere to strict deadlines and manage time effectively
  • Must be detail-oriented and possess the ability to handle multiple tasks/assignments
